Travel books lie. Before you plan your trip, you should know what it's really like.
From the book
"Travel is an industry. They can't make money by honestly telling people, "This city stinks. The people often smell, but the sausages are great!" No one would travel. Instead, they cut and edit and show you tiny pieces of good that exist in a whole of very bad. Once you've seen it for yourself, you'll notice how little travel programs actually show. Travel is about seeing things in person, but those things often exist in places you'd rather not be."
You can spend thousands on what you think will be an amazing experience, or you can spend much less, see the same things, not be disappointed, and not have to lie when you get home or regret the money spent.
Jes and her nephew traveled to the UK, Belgium, Germany and Paris with backpacks, little money, no mobile devices, and no real plans. What they found was not what they expected. Backpacking made the adventure less expensive and much more fun.
From the book
"The advantage of backpacking over usual travel is the lack of luggage. You don't have keep up with several bags. You don't have to worry if your luggage will make it to your next destination. When you get up in the morning and put everything back in your backpack, you walk out of the room knowing everything you own is right there on your back. It is an awesome feeling. There is nothing like it. You are your whole world. You don't belong to any one place any longer than it takes to walk away. It's an amazing feeling that I suppose is freedom, either in a sense or at its very core."
Jes gives you the straight story on travel and the countries she visited. The book includes photos and her packing list with how the items worked out on the trip. There is also a packing list you can use for your own adventure.
Word count approx. 19,800 with photos

Most guides are there to sell you on the trip. This one puts you in the place of a couple of people who wanted to backpack it in and around Europe. There were things that surprised me like the countries having a main attraction of a huge Ferris Wheel, or that Big Ben did not seem as large as it is portrayed to be. I liked the coffee reviews throughout the guide, as a heavy coffee drinker, its one of those 'good to know' kinds of things. All in all, this is a great down to earth guide and I want to visit Germany now! There is too much for me to comment on, so I suggest you get a copy and read how they found room and board or internet or how the sights aren't always what they seem, not to mention a few surprises along the way. I wish all travel guides were like this!

The writer, a very young woman, gets to travel through Europe, a thing many Americans will never get to do, only to whine and complain her way through the whole trip. Wasted reading time.
