Lady Emma Bowen loves her snug little house in London. Captain Phineas Quentin hates his—except that it's near hers. Because he feels ever so much more than neighborly toward the pretty widow next door…

This short story (10,000 words) originally appeared in The Mammoth Book of Regency Romance.

Like None Other edition by Caroline Linden Romance eBooks

LIKE NONE OTHER was a quick little read that was originally published in 2010 when it appeared in "The Mammoth Book of Regency Romance"... It's the very short but sweet tale of Lady Emma Bowen, a widow; and retired Naval Captain Phineas Quentin, her neighbor who wants to be so much more than just her friend...

This was my first experience with Ms. Linden and I really liked her writing. Both Emma and Phin were kind and charming, though not well developed since the entire story was less than forty pages. The romance was cute if not passionate, with some kisses and a little touching. I thought it was a nice and easy read, but there just wasn't enough there and was simply too short on plot and word count. I can definitely see this author's potential however and look forward to reading one of her longer novels soon.

Pages & Kindle Locations: The story contains approximately 37 pages & ended at 89% and location 440 of 494 on my kindle device.

Cute..charming and well worth a read. It is a short story and will bring a smile to your face on a relaxed Saturday morning. Enjoy the story..well worth the purchase! It is in my FAVs collection.
This was a very quick read indeed. A sweet story but ultimately just a little too short for me. The main characters seemed likeable enough but I would have liked to have seen their personalities and the storyline developed a little more.

All in all, though, not bad for $0.99.
I wasn't expecting it to end so soon... and I think there was room to elaborate more on the plot and make it more interesting. Sweet story, though.
It's just a short story but it is well written. Things move quickly but not too fast that it's unbelievable. I prefer longer novels but I got this one because it's written by Caroline Linden. Once again great work from her!

The story is cute, Phin and Emma are neighbors that only really speak between the garden. You meet Emma's pushy mother and some of his family as well. The story is relatively simple and doesn't leave you lingering for more. There's not too much going on to make it rushed either. Just a great story.
Like None Other is very sweet short story. No drama here, just a nice, easy HEA between the widowed Lady Bowen and the dashing recently retired Captain Quinn.
They've been next-door neighbours awhile now... but maybe they both want something more. Meddling Mammas and cynical hired help add a few giggles.

It's worth noting that this is NOT a novella--it's most definitely a short story. Still, one can hardly complain about $0.99, and it's a nice little read.
This is a light-hearted read and not a bad way to spend .99 on a rainy evening. There's nothing very satisfying about it though. The H and h are nice people, and the writing is pretty solid. I was annoyed by the H's mother, especially amount of "screen time" she got in a book with only a few chapters. There really is zero plot. My favorite moment in the entire story is when the H walks over to the h's front door to escort her the 20' back to his house for a supper party. It was a sweet gesture, but as the highlight of an entire story, it's not much to go on. ]

I picked this up because I had just read I Love the Earl, a novella (not short story, like this one) by the same author, and I was itching to try something else of hers before jumping into a full-length novel. I absolutely loved that one. Whether or not you choose to read LNO, be sure to pick up ILTE!
This is a lovely novella written about a widow and a retired sea captain. Despite the maneuverings of their mothers, they find love and happiness together.
